What's the pulse start metal halide lighting?

Pulse start metal halide lamps are similar to traditional metal halide lamps, but offer some different and unique benefits. Pulse start lamps produce the same desirable color characteristics as regular metal halide lamps. However, pulse light lamps lose less heat than their conventional peers due to a high-voltage ignitor instead of a probe electrode. This ignitor also allows the lamp to start faster when it's cold and warm up quickly. Additionally, pulse start technology has a higher energy efficacy and increases lamp life up to 50 percent over traditional metal halide lamps.
Pulse start metal halide is the newest type of lighting technology available. The traditional type of metal halide lighting, called “probe start” is no longer used in the manufacturing of new light fixtures, courtesy of the federal government.
Pulse start metal halide high bay low bay lighting features a new ballast and bulb which are not interchangeable with the probe start type. These bulbs give more lumens of light and maintain their brightness longer than probe start type lights. The theory behind this is that the maintenance cost on a pulse start fixture will be less and buildings can theoretically be lit with fewer lights (or wattage), resulting in energy savings.More efficient pulse start metal halide ballasts have largely replaced
traditional probe start metal halide ballasts. This new generation of HID ballasts include all metal halide ballasts 150 watts and below as well as most current generation higher-wattage ballasts. Pulse start ballasts use higher starting voltages to power lamps, resulting in higher mean lumen ratings and faster restrike times.
