The sodium range of
high pressure sodium floodlights produce a gentle orange light which is similar to that into car parks and street lights. The lamps use sodium to produce light which comes in either a low pressure or high pressure version. The sodium varieties of lamps produce less pollution than similar types of lamps and are ideal for areas which require large levels of lighting such as car parks. Areas with large astronomical observation sites are also keen users of the sodium variety of lamp.
High pressure lamps are small than the alternative low pressure version and these are higher in mercury content which results in a dark pink glow when first lit and turns into a warm orange/pink colour when fully illuminated. In this version of lamp, the main source of light comes from the sodium D-line.
These high pressure versions are most popular amongst councils for car parks and street lighting, with another popular source being indoor gardening set-ups.
Standard 250 and 400 watt sodium floodlights are also available, coming complete with a 10,000 hour, 28,000/50,000 lumen sodium lamp. The included asymmetrical reflector ensures an even distribution of light without causing light pollution. Photocells are also available for the floodlights, allowing dusk to dawn operation.
